I just love how they sound! I love that it's a massive engine in a german luxury sedan! It's like a german muscle car! I really want to get one for my next car but I'm just afraid that the repair bills will hit me aside the head with a *clears throat* sledgehammer.

I really don't have any experience working on cars though, especially on something as complicated as a modern mercedes. (I'm the only car person in the family.)

Buy one now for $6000-$7000, sit on it and drive it very cautiously but lovingly, have a good mechanic go over any major problems with it, and sell again in 5 years for twice the price.

Seriously, 80s Mercs are all the rage right now. They're selling huge on nostalgia factor. 10 years ago what was "ew, it's gross and boxy" is now (as a non-car loving friend said to me last night) "wow, what is that? It's the sexiest retro car I've ever seen!"

Also, include $1,000 for the coke stashed in the glove compartment.

This. I've heard that they're surprisingly reliable. Plus, with some good searching, you can get a decent one for under $15k.
